Additional Great Communities Sites Where TransForm is Working
Alameda Point
The City of Alameda will be considering a Master Plan proposal for the Alameda Point through this fall 2008. TransForm is working with a coalition of community groups to develop a community led vision for Alameda Point. This will help ensure that the Master Plan will respond to the key points of the Alameda Point Vision, providing a walkable, high quality environment that benefits existing residents as much as new ones. Berkeley Downtown
The City of Berkeley has been preparing a new plan for the City's downtown, known as the Downtown Area Plan (DAP). The plan proposes to capitalize on Downtown Berkeley's transit-rich location by transforming it into a "Regional Center" through enhanced pedestrian-oriented infrastructure, increased residential densities, new employment growth, and support for its array of education and cultural assets. Using funding from a recent grant, Berkeley will produce an Environmental Impact Report for the vision of downtown that has been created by the Downtown Area Plan Advisory Committee (DAPAC), and will create implementation measures to speed along the actualization of the plan. TransForm, working through the Great Communities Collaborative and closely with the DAPAC, will offer assistance to the community in building awareness of the benefits of transit oriented development, various parking strategies practiced around the bay area, and on how to make the downtown area as pedestrian-friendly as possible. To learn more about the process, contact Joel Ramos.

Concord Naval Weapons Station
TransForm is working with the Community Coalition for a Sustainable Concord to ensure that the reuse plan for 5,000 acres that make up the Concord NWS will include substantial open space protection and a high quality, walkable neighborhood concentrated around the North Concord BART Station. The Coalition members represent a broad network including Concord residents and environmental, immigrant rights and labor groups. The City of Concord is working on narrowing seven alternatives to a set of preferred alternatives after which a Final EIR will be conducted. Contact Ann Cheng.

Pittsburg/Bay Point BART Station
In fall 2008, the City of Pittsburg is kicking off a planning process for the BART parking lot and surrounding vacant land at the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station. TransForm is working with local group CCISCO to ensure the city involves local residents in planning for a vibrant, walkable and affordable community near the station. San Francisco Japantown
TransForm is providing technical assistance on best practices for transit oriented development to the City of San Francisco and the Japantown Task Force on the Japantown Better Neighborhood Plan. TransForm has been involved since the process started in 2007. After holding extensive community workshops and focus groups with guidance by a Steering Committee of local businesses, organizations and churches, the City is expected to release a Draft Japantown Better Neighborhoods Plan by the end of 2008. The Plan will guide the future of Japantown over half a decade. Since the area is located at a future Geary Street Bus Rapid Transit Station, TransForm is helping to ensure that the community and the plan embrace the opportunity to become a world class transit village with a deep historic and cultural context.
